Verdict

Our Pekan deserves a win after three successive runner-up efforts and is sure to be popular in view of connections but Michael Bell has found some much better form in the middle part of the season after a torrid start to the campaign and RAVEN RIDGE is expected to deliver a good account. Admittedly a beaten favourite last time, he still ran well enough when second to Donny Rover at Newmarket on his first start for three months and should be spot-on here. He's only had the five career starts and the son of High Chaparral should have plenty more to offer over middle distances. Cosmic Halo and recent winner, Croquembouche, are respected but Zumurdah looks a dark horse lurking at the foot of the weights. Off 311 days, he's been sent from Middleham to make a belated seasonal reappearance and is just the sort his yard does well with. He'd be particularly interesting should cash come for him after his lay-off.
