In depth

Verdict

A strong race in its own right but this should also prove a fine trial for the Grand National. Siegemaster was a narrow winner of the Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran from The Midnight Club and they meet on the same terms here. The latter made an error at a crucial stage and with a better round of jumping can take his revenge. Willie Mullins also has Arbor Supreme entered here and at Aintree and, though his recent form has been poor, he's a very good stayer on his day and better is expected. Last year's Irish National 1-2, Bluesea Cracker and OSCAR TIME, meet again and both are entries for the Aintree spectacular. Sam Waley-Cohen travels over to ride Oscar Time, who is owned by his father, and he can reverse the form and take this. It's taking the once high-class Mossbank a long time to regain his form but he looks capable of a better run and he's been fitted with blinkers for the first time.
