In depth

Verdict

In the bumper, Brinkmanship is selected ahead of Sinando, with Alamkhan and Sweet Sparkle rating as interesting newcomers. Sinando won pretty well on his Stratford debut and, even though he has a penalty to shoulder, ought still to be competitive today. Alamshar's half-brother Alamkhan has to rate as interesting on his racecourse debut, while Basic Fact has shown enough in two bumper runs to be granted consideration. On his form of the last two seasons, Brinkmanship has to be a leading player today, although he was a bit disappointing on good to firm last time, but it was a modest race that Catherine's Run won at Worcester. Finally, Private Note showed promise in a soft-ground Taunton bumper in 2005 but has not been seen since, while Sweet Sparkle holds more than enough based on breeding to be given some thought, particularly hailing from such a canny local yard. Overall, the advice is to have a good look at the betting but, without that, we will just opt for Brinkmanship, working on the principal that connections will not run him unless they feel that the going is safe enough.
