Verdict
Dermot Weld has won this six times since 1990 including a year ago but the last six favourites have been beaten. Four of the winners have carried 10st so the Ballybrit handler's Easy Mate is no forlorn hope despite being well beaten over a trip too short at the Curragh. Aidan O'Brien has won the race twice and his DON LEONE will be well supported after a battling success at Killarney. While that wasn't the strongest of line-ups, he may have been underestimated on a mark of 80 as there is definitely more to come in staying races from the son of Montjeu. Siege Of Ennis gained only the second victory of a 42-race career at the Curragh but he's still not badly treated despite a 5lbs rise. Diego Garcia won twice at this meeting back in 2006 and has raced only a couple of times subsequently. He will have been sharpened by a run at The Curragh last month and connections wouldn't have persevered unless they were confident of a big run. Summerlea appeared to find some improvement at Tipperary last time but that was on very fast ground and he has yet to prove he stays this far.
