Verdict

Mark Johnston last won this in 2009 but is going for it big time here with five entries. Jockey bookings probably won't offer too many clues though Joe Fanning's presence on Dr Richard Kimble, who isn't exactly consistent but has won over track and trip, suggests he'll be tuned up for this. Franny Norton rides the unbeaten Hibernicus and keeps the partnership intact after a facile Pontefract victory and he can go well as can Howman, who steps up markedly in trip after completing a double over 1m1f. The latter is just 2lb higher so must be on the shortlist though it's the maiden BARITONE who looks the one to be on. A late-maturing son of Camelot, he's looked certain to be suited by a step-up to this trip in his races to date and can probably go on to better things. Sergio Leone is due to go up 4lb after last week's neck defeat over 1m2f at Newbury where he was staying on strongly at the finish so he can get into contention.
