Verdict
The progressive Malin has the scope to beat Le Tiss and Seeking Answers in an open event to get proceedings under way. John Dunlop's colt cheered the locals when opening his account over the course and distance, overcoming the widest draw of all to swoop on the outside and beat the favourite Baker Of Oz. Described as still immature with growing to do, the son of Cape Cross, although again not too well housed in box five, should have learnt a lot and with Frankie Dettori in the plate, can follow up. Le Tiss has a bad draw to contend with, but there was a lot to like about his Salisbury victory on what was his nursery bow. So much to like in fact that his performance was referred to the Jockey Club. He may just be tapped for toe here but on breeding will make up into a decent middle-distance horse next year. Of the rest, Seeking Answers has each-way claims at least, with a high draw and Richard Hughes to help. Hughsie won this last year on Carrowdore, whose trainer Richard Hannon relies on Habanero who does not look badly weighted. However, Malin, a late foal, has learnt quickly and is the one for us.
