Verdict
Mostanad is the pick here ahead of Next Ness, Rockburst, Beverley Beau and Shatin Leader. This claimer should not take much winning, and Milton Bradley will surely be confident that he can make the long journey up with Mostanad pay off. The gelding is still a maiden after 13 career outings but stayed on well behind Henry Candy's Cheney Hill in a Bath maiden run over the minimum last month, and the combination of a drop in grade and step up in trip can help the son of Alhaarth, who has plummeted down the ratings since last year, to open his account. Next Ness needed seven furlongs to pay his first visit to the winner's enclosure at Catterick, after which he was dismounted. He was found to be sound so should line up fit and well, but the drop back in trip is a worry. Rockburst is a past course-and-distance winner and will be a danger at this level, although he might need the run, while Beverley Beau has bits and pieces of past place form, including on the all-weather, but is a long-standing maiden. Shatin Leader won a better contest than this over track-and-trip last August and would have needed his return in a lowly seller at Musselburgh. It would be no surprise if he were to improve enough to take a hand, but Mostanad has a bit of scope and can pay to follow in this grade at least.
