In depth

Verdict

Baby Barry is taken to get the better of Desert Lightning and El Rey Royale in a typically tricky seller. Desert Lightning hails from a stable in form and has several near misses to his credit this season in similar grade to today¿s. The stable is in fine form and he is a consistent type who looks set to lose his maiden tag before long. El Ray Royale has not won since scoring on his debut two years ago but this represents a drop in grade and he must go close on the evidence of respectable runs in small handicaps recently. He is though proving hard to win with. It is some time since Baby Barry registered a victory but there was a lot to like about the way he knuckled down to the task at Beverley a week ago, staying on well but just held in a similar race to today¿s. His earlier recent runs had come in handicap company and he had shaped well enough to suggest that a race of this nature is within his compass.
