In depth
Verdict
French Horn, who returned to form last time, is very well handicapped and will love these conditions so gets a confident vote here in an otherwise competitive race; Unshaken, Highland Gait and Apache Point look to be the pick of the opposition. The latter has been a model of consistency this season and was a pound out of the handicap when third at Doncaster last time, so is likely to be thereabouts off effectively the same mark here. Highland Gait had been off the track for a long time before finishing second at Beverley last week and he too should go well, although any further rain would probably go against him. Unshaken is nine years old now but extremely well treated on some of his form and was third in a decent race at Carlisle last time so he is likely to be a big danger here. However, we prefer to side with French Horn. Mick Ryan's gelding has been relatively lightly-raced in recent years, but is now on a mark fully 22 pounds lower than his last win, and produced his best effort for a long time when third to the useful Inverness at Newmarket last time on ground that would certainly have been fast enough for him. This ground would be much more suitable, the booking of Seb Sanders is an encouraging sign and his chances are hard to ignore here.
