Verdict

This should rest between Chaplin, Anna Palida and Woolly Back, and the vote goes to Chaplin to improve on his seasonal reappearance. The Barry Hills-trained colt recorded the best piece of form on offer here at Newmarket's Craven meeting when beaten just a length-and-a-half into second by Percussionist, who went on to land the Lingfield Derby Trial by 10 lengths on his only subsequent start. That is decent in the context of this race and with a run under his belt, plus a bit of a break, he will come here nice and fresh to do the job. Anna Palida will be no back number judged on her staying on second to Silent Hawk at Newmarket over 10 furlongs last time. The step up in trip should suit and with some cut a possibility after Thursday's rain, she must enter calculations. Of the others, Woolly Back makes most appeal. He has already contested both his career starts over course and distance and gone well without winning, particularly when going down by just three-quarters-of-a-length to Strike on fast ground last time. He has handled cut too, so any rain would not matter, and he must have strong claims of making the places. For the winner though, we take Chaplin to keep them silent.
