        Verdict

        A competitive handicap which sees last year's victor Chosen Character attempting to win the race again off a 4lb lower mark. The going will be a lot quicker this time but he acquitted himself well when second at Chester last month and can't be ignored. Sound Advice followed up victory in the Thirsk Hunt Cup with an honourable third at Ripon but Birdman's winning run was brought to an end at the same track last week and Simply Shining found the step up in grade too much at Ascot when chasing a hat-trick. Westwood Hoe has more to do than when winning an amateurs' race at York over 7f but Express Himself could play a part and Dornoch and Pintura aren't badly treated. NAVAJO CHIEF has tumbled down the weights and looked to be on the way back at Chester. He tends to reserve his best for York but this is a similar track and he could be worth an interest if allowed to start at decent odds.
