In depth

Verdict

A very well-contested novices’ handicap, though connections of Ubetya will have been hoping for some rain. Brief Ambition, on the other hand, would prefer it if the ground dried out a little more. Second three times in small fields since joining Jennie Candlish, Nero Rock is having a first run since wind surgery. After a wind operation in January, DREAMS OF HOME was never travelling at Newbury but that was probably only a temporary blip as he’s generally taken well to fences this season. Soldier Of Destiny went up 9lb for winning at Ffos Las and couldn’t cope at Newbury but the mare Burrows Diamond has got her act together, though will have to defy a further 8lb rise to complete her hat-trick.
