        Verdict

        The horses with experience look very moderate and so Martin Pipe's newcomer Singing Spirit is chosen to beat Dame Beezil and Whistling Fred. This six-year-old is a well bred daughter of Opera Ghost and like most of Pipe's debutante's will know her job. Ben de Haan has had plenty of winners in this type of event in the past and his entry Whistling Fred, a gelding by Overbury, should be carefully monitored in the betting. The other newcomer we like the look of is Dame Beezil, who will appreciate any more rain that falls. Speedy Richard showed plenty of promise in two decent events last season and could be the best of the others. However Pipe has found an easy opening for Singing Spirit and this one is given the vote.
