In depth

Verdict

Nicky Henderson has two runners in the second division of this novices’ hurdle and Scarpia in this race. He showed definite promise in a couple of bumpers last season and is out of a mare that won four times over hurdles so should make a jumper. Fraternel carries a penalty for winning at Fakenham in February and will need to settle better than when a well-beaten third at Warwick but Bumpy Johnson was impressive in a Fontwell bumper last month and Gordon Elliott sends over Getabay, who has placed in maidens at Punchestown and Listowel. SAM BARTON was an eye-catcher in an above-average maiden at Chepstow and only a couple of lengths behind subsequent Ascot winner Tide Times. He should be more the finished article here.
