In depth
Verdict
River Trix gets a tentative vote over Jacksonvile, Nocksky and Lannkaran. The latter has not won for two years but has taken on decent company since, including Amberleigh House, and is now starting to look better handicapped. It would not surprise us if he were to bounce back, but we prefer the claims of River Trix on this occasion. There is no doubting the fact that the selection had his task made easier by the fall of Tarongo at Plumpton but he was not stopping at the finish and will handle the step back up in trip. He remains nicely weighted and goes on the ground so has plenty going for him here. Nocksky could not have won a worse contest than at Newton Abbot recently, but as that was his first success for around five years, Martin Pipe may have found the key to him and he should not be discounted. A bigger danger though may be Jacksonville, who travelled strongly when opening his account from out of the handicap at Perth last week. He carries a six-pound penalty and if they go a decent pace, will be involved in the finish surely. In a close contest on paper, River Trix is the selection.
