Verdict
Xaipete has the best form and should get favourite backers off to a good start in the opener, with Ball Games best of the rest. Richard Guest's 12-year-old has been a grand servant to Norman Mason down the years and owes him nothing, but is still capable at this level. He has tackled much better opposition in the past and the plunge to selling company should offset the fact that he has to give weight away all round. Ball Games is much younger but has shown little so far. The one thing in his favour is that he has Tony Dobbin in the plate. Irish-bred Direct Decendant is interesting as he has slowly improved this term, but all in all it is a one horse race, with Xaipete head and shoulders above the rest.
