In depth
Verdict
Irish Wolf is hard to avoid here and gets a confident vote to fend off Crathorne and Not A Trace, while Russian Sky has a good record of making the frame and should not be underestimated. The last named has yet to really convince over fences though and the fitting of cheeckpieces will really need to sharpen him up. Not A Trace comes here on the back of an encouraging effort at Perth earlier in the month and would be a threat if he could be guaranteed to repeat the effort. However, consistency is not his strong point and the eight-year-old has something to prove this afternoon. Crathorne picks up a 6lb penalty for winning a class 4 novice chase here at the start of the month, so has a fair bit to do under the circumstances. However, that was a pleasing chasing debut and he can still pay his way at this level. However, Irish Wolf was much the best of these over hurdles and, as he showed a really gutsy attitude when winning on his chasing debut, Peter Bowen's charge is fancied to take this test in his stride today.
