In depth

Verdict

Reaching Out did everything asked of him when scoring over course and distance on his hurdling debut and is taken to follow up at the main expense of Pace Shot and Leo's Lucky Star. The last mentioned was decent as a two-year-old on the flat but lost his way for Mark Johnston and it will be interesting to see if the switch to the winter game brings about a change in fortune for the son of Forestry. Kanpai lost little in defeat behind the potentially useful recruit Alfred The Great at Sandown on his debut and has to be respected. Brendan's Surprise was nothing out of the ordinary on the level but may do better with eight flights of hurdles ahead of him although a bigger threat is likely to come from Gary Moore's Aintree winner Pace Shot, who was a maiden on the flat but is clearly better over hurdles. Reaching Out showed solid form on the flat though, represents a stable in form and is taken to follow up his debut hurdling success.
