Verdict

Benchmark can live up to his name, as he sets the standard from those with experience and he is proffered to well-bred newcomers Mubaashir and Peggy Flowers. The last named is from a yard that have already scored with their juveniles, so should be fit and ready for the task. She gets the 5lb fillies allowance and it will come as no surprise to see her give the colts a good run for the money. Mubaashir is by first season sire Noverre, out of a Dolphin Street mare. He is likely to come into his own over a mile in due course. But, as his sire won on his first career start, he can be expected to be forward enough to go close here. Nevertheless, Benchmark has an all important run under his belt and is fancied to build on the effort today. The son of Mark Of Esteem was a victim of tactics on his debut and found himself surrounded when he tried to deliver an effort. He wasn't given a hard time when his chance had gone but the way Benchmark ran on suggested it's only a matter of time before he starts paying his way. Today looks a good opening for him to put the theory to the test.
