Verdict
Darling Maltaix opened his hurdling account in emphatic fashion at Ascot last month, beating Milrow four lengths. But the handicapper took exception to that performance and raised him 12lb and plenty of today’s rivals also arrive in peak form. Erick Le Rouge is three from three this season and may not have stopped improving yet. Kloud Gate has won easily at Leicester and Doncaster and Star Of Lanka is also on a hat-trick. Cotswold Way has already completed the three-timer under Micheal Nolan this season and is likely to have his ground again so looks a threat to all but narrow preference is for LORD NAPIER. Twice a winner over 2m4f last season, he was giving 13lb to Darling Maltaix when only half-a-length behind the Nicholls horse at Wincanton last month and he went on to run a fine race behind Mohaayed in a Grade 3 at Ascot when again giving the impression that 2m was too short. Doux Pretender didn’t appear to stay 3m at Cheltenham and is making his handicap debut while Bryony Frost could get a tune out of the consistent Canyon City and he’s another on the lengthy short-list.
