In depth

Sonoftheking was second to Virak on his hurdling debut at Newton Abbot but will need to improve on that to trouble OTTO THE GREAT, who had shown plenty of promise over hurdles before winning a novice chase at Doncaster in February. Good ground suits him well. Gold Ingot may do better when tackling handicaps but is still preferred to Fontwell third Proper Villan and Kalmbeforethe storm. King Boru has some scope and looks the pick of the remainder.

Buffy The Beatle 66-1 (10-13) Tracked leaders, hard driven 4 out, weakened before 2 out, 5th of 10, 27l behind Mcllhatton (10-13) at Huntingdon 2m 5f nh nov hdl (4) gd in Apr.

Gold Ingot 33-1 (11-0) Took keen hold, soon steadied towards rear, not fluent 4th, outpaced in 5th before 2 out, never on terms, 6th of 10, 32l behind Le Reve (11-6) at Kempton 2m 5f nh nov hdl (4) gs in Apr.

Kadalkin (FR) 40-1 (11-5) In touch, under pressure 3 out, soon faded, 5th of 12, well behind Al Ferof (11-5) at Taunton 2m 3f NH nov hdl (4-7yo) (4) gs in Jan '11.

Kalmbeforethestorm 13-2 (11-0) Held up in last, reached mid-division 5th, mistake 3 out, went 5th when mistake 2 out, never in contention, 5th of 15, 44l behind Royal Guardsman (11-0) at Newton Abbot 2m 1f mdn hdl (5) gs in Apr.

King Boru (IRE) 6-1 (11-4) Held up towards rear, headway on inside over 1f out, not much room on rail final 125 yards, ridden and stayed on same pace after, 5th of 12, 2 3/4l behind Bodega (11-4) at Lingfield 2m n h flat (6) std in Feb.

Monte Kaolino (IRE) 50-1 (10-12) Tracked leader until 4th, close up, ridden after 6th, weakened next, pulled up 4 out, in a race won by Captain Kelly (10-12) at Wincanton 2m 6f nh nov hdl (4) gf, 5 ran.

Otto The Great (FR) 5-2 (10-11) Tracked leader and raced wide, with leader 4th, led before 2 out, kept on well, won at Doncaster 3m nov chs (4) gd in Feb beating Private Equity (10-11) by 3 1/2l, 4 ran.

Proper Villan (IRE) 66-1 (11-0) Took keen hold towards rear, blundered 7th, plugged on from 2 out, kept on flat, went 3rd towards finish, 3rd of 11, 17l behind Seebright (11-6) at Fontwell 2m 4f nh nov hdl (4) sft in Apr.
