In depth

Verdict

A wide-open handicap in which a tentative vote goes to Loner, with a whole host of dangers, including Balmacera, Ehab, Lucefer, Eagles View and pants to name but a few. Kieren Fallon is an eye catching booking for Loner who finally got back to winning ways in an eventful selling race at Warwick 12 days ago. There was a pile-up in that contest, but Michael Wigham's charge managed to avoid the trouble to score well. That was his first success since winning off a mark of 72 at Goodwood three years ago, and with Fallon in the plate now, a follow up is very much a possibility. In such a race, an each-way bet is the best option, as quite a few have threatened to prevail of late. One of those is Pants who has plunged to a favourable mark of late, and having run well from an unfavourable draw at Pontefract, was only denied by a neck at Yarmouth last time. The seven furlongs and fitting of cheekpieces have been instrumental in her improvement and Vicki Haigh's filly is another with place claims. Will He Wish has it to off topweight, but long-standing maiden Balmacara can go close judged on her solid effort at Doncaster recently. It is a a hard one to solve but Loner can make a few friends under Kieren Fallon.
