        Verdict

        Desert Island Disc, a winner off a much higher mark than this in the past, has the recent form to cope with Northside Lodge, Scent Of Victory and the lightly-raced Rule Britannia. The selection finished second in this event last season and although officially running off a four pound higher mark is actually two pounds better off as his jockey put up six pounds overweight last season. Suited by most surfaces, Desert Island Disc showed her well being in a fillies' handicap at Salisbury ten days ago where she was not disgraced behind the useful Pongee. With question marks over many of these she could go well at a decent price. Scent Of Victory has yet to prove he stays 12 furlongs on turf but his last two runs have been encouraging and it would be no surprise to see him going close especially if the going comes up fast. Northside Lodge is stepping up in trip here having been campaigned exclusively over ten furlongs. His form over that trip would be good enough to win this but there must be a question mark about him staying the trip though his stable won this last season with a horse with a similar profile. The biggest danger could come from Rule Britannia who showed promise on his seasonal reappearance and being lightly-raced he has the most scope for improvement. In summary, Desert Island Disc looks the value call with Northside Lodge and Rule Britannia expected to go close if they stay.
