Verdict
This is a wide-open and Great Oaks is offered up as a luke-warm nomination. Running through the field. Zahaalie is the only course and distance winner in the race. That win came three years ago from a mark of 87. As he is now rated 84, and his rider claims seven pounds, he has to be considered although he is now 12 and not as good as he once was. Great Oaks has shown promise over hurdles and, dropped to this level for the first time, has also to be considered. Fairtoto is handicapped towards the top end of what he has so far achieved but has run well from a three-pound lower mark recently at this level, and his rider takes off a useful three pounds. Time For Action and Canny Chiftane would have to roll back the years to hold a chance, a similar comment applying to Gaelic Probe. The Fenman looked up to winning a race of this nature in February but recent starts have not been encouraging. However, it would not be a complete surprise if he went well. Walcot Lad also has form at around his current mark at this level, so can't be ruled out, while Prayerful's run behind Lord Alyn at Towcester in November gives him a shout too. As we say, it's wide open. Watch the betting for clues. Our tentative selection is Great Oaks.
