In depth

Verdict

Mia's Boy proved his liking for cut in the ground when successful at Thirsk last time when doing all of his best work late on in the race so he should appreciate the extra furlong today and Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt gets the vote to make a winning handicap debut ahead of Magic Echo and Look So. The last mentioned is 10lbs higher here than when scoring at Leicester two outings ago and, although running promisingly in a Listed race at Warwick subsequently, he looks best watched today. Encores is likely to find this tougher than the race that he won at Newmarket last time, while Sam Lord may do better back on a more testing surface but could probably do with some help from the handicapper. Lordship is a consistent performer and handles cut in the ground so has to be considered along with the Michael Dods-trained Magic Echo, who could be of interest dropping back in trip. Mia's Boy should improve for today's longer distance though and he is preferred.
