Verdict

A dreadful but competitive event in which several have claims including Piccolo Prince, Inzabar and Hunting Pink but the vote goes to Princess Ismene, who looks to have been given a chance by the handicapper on her debut in a nursery. Jonathan Jay's filly has found one too good in selling-company on her last two starts and makes her debut in this grade off a mark of 56. She may have most to fear from Inzabar, who showed improved form when stepped up to this trip at Thirsk last time. Piccolo Prince is a rare runner for Barry Hills in such lowly company and has to be respected along with the likes of Hugh Morrison's Hunting Pink, all-weather winner Maggies Choice and the consistent Pardon Moi but Princess Ismene has solid claims and gets the verdict in a trappy contest.
