          Verdict

          Topweight Mr Lear and Luca Cumani's Windy Britain have both in good form in handicap-company of late but may be a shade high in the weight snow so are passed over in favour of another in-form horse, Kirkham Abbey, who has more improvement in him than his rivals. The Michael Jarvis-trained inmate was good value for his two-length success over Gemini Lady at Redcar on his first start over 10 furlongs last time and, under a 6lb penalty, looks the one to be on in a competitive heat. Mister Clinton, another penalised runner, won well over this trip at Brighton last week and has to be respected along with another recent winner at the south coast venue Gabor. Mick Channon's Kristiansand and Escalade, from the stable of Mark Brisbourne, are others worthy of a mention but Kirkham Abbey has obvious claims and gets the vote.
