Verdict
Some interesting newcomers here including Alshawameq, Zerlina and Gold History, any of who could be good enough to win this but Sir Michael Stoute's Lord Mayor ran encouragingly on his debut and is taken to fulfil that promise. The selection was a never nearer sixth of 16, beaten six lengths behind Torinmoor on his first start in a Newmarket maiden last month. There should be more to come from the son of Machiavellian and it will take a good one to beat him. Among the others to have raced both Alex Stewart's Raysoot and John Gosden's Schapiro are probably both better than they showed first time but the main dangers may be lurking among the newcomers. John Dunlop's Alshawameq, a Green Desert half-brother to three winners, the Barry Hills-trained Daylami filly Daytime Girl, Mark Johnston's American-bred Gold History and Zerlina, Richard Hannon's daughter of Singspiel look the pick of them but we are happy to side with the experience of Lord Mayor.
