In depth

Verdict

Something has obviously been amiss with Brightly Shining, who started favourite on his debut at the Curragh a year ago but finished last and hasn't been seen since. Game Set Dash, who is a half-brother to five winners, also led the market on his opening run at Dundalk in November but found 7f too short and he's entered in the Irish Derby. Hans Holbein is in all the major races and will be expected to do much better than when runner-up to Summaya at Cork on his return to action. That winner is trained by Dermot Weld, who has the newcomer VALAC in this. He's the fifth foal of a mare who has already produced four winners including three at Group level so he's taken to keep up the family tradition.
