Bachelor put an encouraging hurdling debut at Punchestown to good use when an excellent second at Fairyhouse and should definitely make further progress. However, there are some very interesting newcomers engaged including Art Of America, who completed a double on the Flat at Gowran in October, and his stable companion Pienta, beaten just a neck in a huge field over 1m1f here the same month on just his fourth start. Fightfortheroses and SIR EREC represent Joseph O'Brien, the former having finished behind his stable companion when both were trained by Aidan in a Limerick Listed contest before the latter finished third behind Stradivarius in the Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot. That looks top-class form so he gets the nod though Willie Mullins has won this for the past two years and Compiegne Flat winner Tiger Tap Tap is another to keep an eye on.
