In depth
Verdict
Another open contest on a card full of punting nightmares at Lingfield and we suggest Island Swing, with Wiltshire, Miss Malone and Ruby Muja as others for the short list. The selection is rated best of these officially and landed successive sellers earlier in the campaign before going off the boil in nursery company. An unfancied 50-1 chance last time, he performed with plenty of credit at Yarmouth and has gone up again as a result, but there is nothing in this race to match his conquerors there and he may be good enough to win again. Wiltshire benefited from the drop back to the minimum trip to win at Bath last time, and clearly has more speed than his pedigree suggests. That will stand him in good stead here, though he has a lot to find with the selection at the weights. One who is better off is Miss Malone, who has failed to reproduce a decent effort at Kempton in June, in four subsequent starts. She is dropping down the ranks as a result but seems a risky proposition until we know when that slide will stop. Of the remainder, Ruby Muja put in a won a Windsor seller last time and should get this step up in trip, though the all weather surface and her ability to improve are the questions she has to provide answers to, and we are happier to suggest Island Swing as a tentative selection.
