In depth

Verdict

Compton Eclaire can make the most of the weight that she receives from the likes of Wozzeck, Snow's Ride and Sadler's Cove to land the finale. Gerard Butler's filly opened her account in what was in reality a moderate contest at Redcar, but she could do no more than win as she did, outstaying the opposition. It was therefore a little surprising to see her dropped back in trip at Brighton on her next engagement, in which she battled her heart out, going down by the narrowest of margins to Magic Charm. She would have surely prevailed in another stride and the two mile trip here is sure to suit. Wozzeck is going the right way but is a slow maturing sort on the evidence so far, while Snow's Ride will appreciate the drop in class. Sariba has sneaked in on the bottom of the handicap but might just need the run, and Its Your Bid is a bit frustrating, always finding one or two too good. Compton Eclaire is our idea of the winner.
