In depth

Verdict

There is plenty of form to work on here, and Fiddlers Ford is a tentative choice to beat Come What July, Another Con and Alfridini. Fiddlers Ford was strongly fancied here nine days ago in maiden company but failed to really pick up and was beaten by Dancing Lyra. A stronger pace would have suited the son of Sadler's Wells who still holds a Derby entry, and it is hoped that he will get one here. If failing this time, the step up to a mile and a half sooner rather than later could be the answer. There are numerous dangers, including Come What July who was actually purchased to try and win the Brocklesby as a juvenile. However, it took the step up to today's trip for Rae Guest's charge to visit the winner's enclosure, and he is sure to appreciate the return to the Polytrack after finding Wolverhampton a bit slow a fortnight ago. Another Con has more scope than most, having opened her account at only the fourth time of asking in as many outings here, and is not too harshly treated after that handicap debut success. Alfridini had to overcome a slow start when beaten a neck by Eccentric over seven furlongs eight days ago and will be out to get the losses back over a more suitable trip. Varuni is only lightly raced and and could figure somewhere, but Western Roots has topweight to overcome. In the hope that he will get the pace required, Fiddlers Ford is the selection.
