Verdict

Watch the betting for clues in this intriguing contest but The King's Bishop could oblige, with Hatch, Instinct, Trench Coat, Emsam Ballou and Saintly Scholar others to consider. Running through the field, Karathaena has shown promise in Turf maidens. Fit To Fly showed promise in better events at two but was slightly disappointing on his all-weather debut last time at Wolverhampton. Hatch appeared to improve here over this trip last time, running Bahiano to two lengths. A repeat of that effort makes him very competitive here. Instinct displayed promise when running green here last time but, if more-mentally tuned-in this time, could go well for Her Majesty The Queen. On The Waterfront drops back in trip after racing too freely last time and could have some improvement to come, while the well-bred The King's Bishop showed plenty of promise on his debut over a furlong further here and is one to grant serious consideration to. Trench Coat, from the in-form Andrew Balding yard, is another with a likeable profile and has form on the surface, while Richard Hannon's Emsam Ballou has plenty going for her on breeding and market support would be interesting. A similar set of comments apply to the expensive Ed Dunlop runner Saintly Scholar. As ever, the betting market should provide a number of clues in this interesting maiden race but, without that knowledge, we will side with The King's Bishop.
