Verdict
As can only be expected with maidens at this course during the Autumn, none of these have really caught the imagination as yet and this looks set to produce modest handicappers at best. Tropical Storm, who hails from a yard that are flying at present, will no doubt be a popular selection and is definitely one for the shortlist. However, the form of his debut run is nothing special so he may be worth taking on with the John Gosden-trained Unrivalled, who is the better drawn of the two here. Benny The Ball and the dropped in class Abington Angel look to be the best of the remainder with experience - whereas a move for the newcomers Disengage, My Hope or Semenovskii all also be interesting. But Unrivalled may be the safest option today as he fits the profile of a lightly raced individual who has not been over-faced by John Gosden as he sets out to qualify for a handicap mark. The son of Unfuwain found a crack at the Chesham Stakes came a little early for him when he weakened in the closing stages at Ascot in June. However, he had previously hinted that he possesses plenty of ability when chasing home useful sprinter King Carnival at Haydock on his debut. Unrivalled can be expected to make an impact over much further than this in time, but his debut run showed that he also posses a touch of speed and is worth giving another chance to in this company.
