In depth

Verdict

Brilliant Red has been a revelation on the all-weather since joining the stable of Jamie Poulton but his form is all over shorter than this distance and there is no guarantee that the son of Royal Academy will get the trip. There are no such problems on that score with Compton Commander and, off just a 2lb higher mark than when beating High Hope over course and distance at the beginning of the month, he looks to have solid claims of providing another winner for Gerard Butler. Richard Fahey's Altay is in the form of his life at present but a 12lb rise for his most recent success looks harsh. The Derek Haydn Jones-trained Forever Loved has also won his last two outings on sand and comes here in good order but those wins have come on the Fibresand at Wolverhampton and the daughter of Deploy has yet to prove she is equally effective on the Polytrack. Katiypour represents the in-form stable of David Barron and has to be respected but is not certain to stay the trip. Kelpie, twice a runner-up here including over today's trip, since winning over 1m2f last month is another worthy of a mention, along with Willie Musson's Street Life who still looks reasonably well handicapped but has a bit to find with Butler's horse.
