In depth
Verdict
The Amanda Perrett yard can strike again with Khabfair, who returns to Lingfield on the back of a solid piece of form registered at Ascot last month. High Reach and Marshman are very much respected and are just a couple of rivals that can give the selection plenty to think about as the race unfolds. The former has become a little expensive to follow since his gallant third in the Wokingham in the summer and has strangely been raised 11lb in the handicap without winning a race since last August. However, his last few starts have come in much better contests that this and he will appreciate the ease in grade today. Still, his record of only one career win is off putting and he may again be frustratingly short of the mark today. Marshman won in good style at York earlier in the month and is entitled to be thereabouts on that form. However, he was a little disappointing at Newmarket a fortnight ago and he now has a little to prove. By way of contrast, Khabfair, who won his maiden here at this time last year, is still open to plenty of improvement and still has plenty to offer despite a 4lb higher mark today. The son of Intikhab is less exposed than the likes of Lygeton Lad and Ettrick Water, who have already been kept busy this season, and Perrett's charge is fancied to hold the upper hand today. Each-way support for Norwegian raider Hanzano will also be interesting.
