In depth

Verdict

There should be plenty more to come from My Pal Val, who is selected ahead of Lyricist's Dream and Emkanat. The last named was unlucky not to get off the mark in a bumper at Musselburgh in February. The gelding showed a good attitude in battling to the line and compensation surely awaits when he has got the benefit of experience of hurdles under his belt. Lyricist's Dream ran her best race to date when finishing second at Worcester last month. She has experience of the course and may be capable of exploiting any weaknesses in the opposition today. However, My Pal Val made a very encouraging hurdles debut last December and shapes as if he can pay his way at this level. Henrietta Knight is sure to have him well schooled for this reappearance and everything looks to be in place for a bold bid from the son of Classic Cliche.
