In depth
Verdict
Guignol du Cochet can put one over on Mouseski, with Route One and Good Heart the only others to make any appeal at all. The latter has been point-to-pointing and will line up fit enough, while Route One has a couple of wins in hunter chase company to his name this year. However, both face a massive task against the principals, with preference for the Steve Flook-trained Guignol du Cochet. The ten-year-old currently leads the Brightwells Insurance Group Challenge, open to horses purchased through the company, and as there is ¿4,000 up for grabs at the end of the season, Flook will want to make sure that he adds to the 54pts already amassed. Guignol du Cochet won readily here at the beginning of April and followed up nicely at Newton Abbot recently. He should have plenty left in the locker and can account for Mouseski who is looking for his third straight win. However, he only scraped home at Exeter and did not beat much in atrocious conditions at Cheltenham next time. He met nothing of the calibre of Guignol du Cochet that evening, and will find the latter possibly too tough to handle.
