Verdict
A poor contest may see The Pennys Dropped add to his tally over Karajan, with Good Bone, Whatashock and Frederic Forever not out of it. It is with no great conviction that The Pennys Dropped is selected as he has been very costly to follow so far, finally coming good at Bangor in May when beating Hanbrin Rose by three-and-a-half-lengths. He jumped to the left that day, hampering his main rivals in the process and it was down to Tony McCoy's strength in the saddle as much as anything else that he got home. The fact that he is picked to follow up shows just how bad this race is, and only a small wager is suggested. Karajan was left in the lead when Some Judge ran out on the home turn at Huntingdon and was lucky to scrape home, while Good Bone was a beaten favourite at Fontwell when failing to quicken when it mattered. Whatashock appears to have quickly been caught by the handicapper judged on a poor effort at Worcester. This former point-to-pointer had earlier beaten Frederic Forever at Wincanton and chased home Montreal at Bangor, so it would not be a surprise if he bounced back to defy topweight. However, we shall probably regret this, but we turn to The Pennys Dropped to follow up.
