In depth

Verdict

Winning point-to-pointer John Williams hasn't had much experience under Rules but ran his best race to date behind Civil Unrest at Hexham and the winner could give the form a boost in the opener. RYALEX also scored between the flags and makes his chasing debut. He's only five and could end up quite a bit better than this so gets the nod to open his account. Thankyou Very Much has a victory over hurdles to her credit and ran better than expected on her chasing debut at Southwell but Ballinvegga has plenty of weight for his debut over fences. Roderick Random had shown almost nothing before making his chasing bow at Stratford but was heavily supported. He could only finish third then pulled up on this track when again coming in for sustained support, though he may have been struck into. Fields of Glory won over timber in March but jumped moderately on his first start over the bigger obstacles at Huntingdon.
