Verdict

Not a great race by any stretch of the imagination but Roman The Park is at least in form and can see off Saucy and Pearl of York. Tim Easterby's charge is plenty exposed on the book but he is at least running to form and his recent effort at Beverley suggests that he should handle nine furlongs here. Pearl of York has no such problems with staying the trip having competed largely over ten and twelve furlongs. The surface may be the worry as all the best form is when the ground is genuinely firm. Berkshire raider Saucy has not shown too much to write home about from a form perspective but the fact that connections have been prepared to come so far and book Darryll Holland for the mount all rate as major positives. Bargain Hunt was third in a woeful seller at Carlisle on Saturday and still chases an illusive maiden success. Kintore and Compassion have both been well beaten in recent engagements and are best watched in the market in case of any support that suggests further improvement is likely. A modest closing event in which Roman The Park is favoured as he does at least know how to win.
