In depth
Verdict
Next Flight can outstay his opponents to land the opener, with Ellway Heights, Paddy Mul and Western Bluebird expected to give him most to do. Ron Barr's five-year-old has been in consistent form of late without managing to add to his only success so far, at Newcastle in April. That was gained on soft ground that brought his stamina into play, but he did run well enough on fast going at Redcar in May to suggest that he will not be inconvenienced by underfoot conditions here. He kept on gamely enough on a return to Gosforth Park 11 days and still appears to be well treated. Ellway Heights was a bit unlucky in running here last time, and should appreciate the step up in trip, as should Paddy Mul, a staying on third at Catterick. Western Bluebird should not be left out either, having beat all by Toni Alcala when trying to make all in amateur company over the course and distance a week ago. There are quite a few in with chances then, but Next Flight deserves to get his head back in front and is the selection.
