In depth

Verdict

The in-form Carnivore edges a narrow vote of confidence over Defi and Stoic Leader, while Fast Heart is not without a chance if he comes here with his mind fixed on the job in hand. The last named made an encouraging start for his new yard before posting a most disappointing effort in a similar race at Catterick last time. He now has a little to prove over this trip. However, the five-year-old has never been the easiest to figure out and, as David Nicholls has a habit of working the oracle with this type of animal, he is not one to underestimate at this level. Stoic Leader has been a great servant to his connections and continues to thrive on his racing. He has won off higher marks in the past and, as he showed great tenacity to win last time out; he should again be capable of getting into the thick of the action. Defi is on a roll and is chasing his third win on the bounce. He does have more to do now and needs to post a career best effort to score. Therefore, we go with the improving Carnivore, who has a live chance on these terms and, as a previous course and distance winner, David Barron's charge has everything in his favour tonight.
