Verdict

FIREWATER returned to action after a long break to be beaten a head over 1m2f at Newcastle where he looked like winning until just running out of steam. The winner has scored again so compensation awaits here. Lady Scatterley ended last season with a victory over this trip at Pontefract. She attempted to make all when tackling 1m6f at Redcar 10 days ago and was only caught inside the final furlong. Vampish only went up 2lb for a surprise victory at Beverley but proved it was no fluke when beaten a neck on a return visit last week and is on the same mark. Framley Garth hasn't won for two years when landing a better handicap than this at York from 9lb higher.
