In depth

Verdict

An open-looking contest can go the way of Wannabe Posh, with Bauer, Risk Runner and Aspasias Tizzy just three more to conjure with. John Dunlop won this event 12 months ago with Tawqeet, and hopes are high that Wannabe Posh can prove good enough to defy a 6lb penalty incurred for a deserved first career success at Windsor nine days ago. She had been unlucky-in-running on more than one occasion prior to that, and now that she has proved that she stays 12 furlongs, is worth supporting off what looks a reasonable handicap mark. She should continue to progress and is taken to stave off the challenge of another potential improver in the shape of Bauer. Luca Cumani's colt got going too late on the soft ground at Bath last time, finishing second, but there will be no stamina issues today despite the step up in trip, and he too is at the right end of the handicap. Risk Runner meets the selection on 6lb better terms for the length-and-threequarters that separated them at Windsor, but was always looking held, while Aspasias Tizzy won a Thirsk maiden well enough, but it is too soon to be bulling her up. She has plenty of weight for what she has achieved, and we would much rather side with Wannabe Posh.
