Verdict
Certainly not a contest to get too heavily involved in from a financial point of view, but typically this should prove to be informative than anything. Of those with experience, Kawagino and El Laoob look to be the pick. The former had plenty of experience at two when he even ran in Group 2 company. The Nerys Dutfield-trained gelding met trouble in running when beaten only a length into fourth at Kempton last time, though he was arguably held by the first three anyway. Nevertheless the step up in trip should suit and he should be involved at the finish again. El Laoob receives the 5lb fillies' allowance and should also be much better both for the step up in trip and the experience of her first racecourse appearance at Newmarket recently. Reported to have come out of that race well, she is taken to score here. Of those without experience, Sir Michael Stoute's Merrymaker looks most interesting. Bred to get a deal further, the colt should get a good introduction here and with the yard in form he is likely to be forward enough to go well. The market will be our best guide to his chances, and the same can be said of Emtee. He is another who should be better for the run and also over further, but we cannot rule out a winning debut from the colt, with the yard being is such good early season form. Notebooks at the ready.
