A typically competitive renewal of this seven furlong handicap. Decent claims can be given to Traytonic, Partners In Jazz, Mine and Moonlight Man, but preference just goes to the progressive three-year-old Goodricke. A high draw is likely to be an advantage here, and for that reason we are prepared to take on Pivotal Flame and last year's runner-up, Polar Way. New Seeker had everything in his favour when landing the Royal Hunt Cup at York, and while a six pound rise in the weights may not seem overly harsh, the form of that race has not worked out well so far and he can be opposed from stall 13. Traytonic returned to his very best when beating Quito at Haydock last time and he should be as effective over this extra furlong, so has to be feared. The first six from Newmarket's Bunbury Cup all reoppose here, and of them Mine and Partners In Jazz are preferred. The latter gets a three pound pull for being beaten just over a length and looks capable of landing a prize such as this. Moonlight Man loves to race up with the pace and although he fared well over a mile here last time, this is probably his ideal trip. But Goodricke gets the vote here. David Loder's three-year-old looks a very smart prospect and there is every reason to believe the best is yet to come from him. He began the year in handicap company, dead-heating with Resplendent Glory, who he was giving seven pounds to. The fact that horse has since won in Group 3 company underlines what a good performance that was. His only disappointing run this year came on soft ground at York, and his most recent outing saw him laugh at some useful rivals over six furlongs here, winning a conditions race by four lengths. Goodricke will almost certainly become a useful Group performer in time, and provided this extra furlong doesn't inconvenience him, Jamie Spencer's mount could prove to be a blot on the handicap today.
