In depth

Verdict

French raider Khazar edges preference over Ingratitude, Cosmologist and Scotland Yard. The last named showed ability on the Flat during his time with Mark Johnston - staying a lot further than his pedigree would suggest from his dams' side. He was well backed on his hurdles debut and had obviously shown his connections something to merit the interest. The market will be a good gauge as to whether compensation awaits this afternoon. Cosmologist - a son of Galileo - is a related to several winners and is respected after he made a pleasing introduction at Lingfield last month. He was just done for toe near the finish but will be a lot wiser today. The Nicky Henderson-trained Ingratitude is another recruit from the level that can be expected to give a good account of himself if he runs up to the form of some of his stablemates. He has to be on the shortlist. However, a chance is taken with Khazar, whose form in France has a solid feel to it and, with his yard scoring with a similar type at Kempton it is not unfeasible to think they fancy their chances again with this fellow.
