In depth

Verdict

Spear is taken to go one better at the expense of Torrens and Rainbow Rising. Providing Spear handles the ground, there is no reason why he should not build on his second to Fongtastic at Newmarket in July. Given David Loder's record in the past with his youngsters, this fellow will be a popular choice under Kevin Darley. Torrens might not be in the same league as Shamardal but has been working well at home and can make the frame at least. Rainbow Rising stayed on at Carlisle and should appreciate the trip at least, but really, Spear has obvious claims and can get favourite backers off the mark.
